Have you ever wondered why some people can be happy with little while others seemingly have it all but are very unhappy?

Do you think your joy level determines what happens to you and what other people do or say?

You could be stuck on this rollercoaster for too long unless you find tools to get out and find a way to be free.

What determines happiness?

A study was done by psychologist Sonja Lyubomirsky who mentioned the three factors with the greatest influence on increasing our happiness.

They are:

1. OUR ABILITY TO REFRAME OUR SITUATION MORE POSITIVELY

We can’t control what other people do or what happens to us, but we can choose to see it from a different perspective and give those things different meanings.

Stop asking “why me” and begin to appreciate the lessons you were given. Everything happens for a reason to teach us something. Find those lessons, and embrace them. They shape your character and make you better.

2. OUR ABILITY TO EXPERIENCE GRATITUDE

It only takes a few minutes and can make such a big difference.

“If I don’t have …, I would miss it.”

Before you rush into your day or lay your head down in the evening, take a few minutes to notice the things you already have. Something as simple as having a comfy bed to sleep in, friends to share your time with, shoes, so you don’t need to walk barefoot…

Set time apart each day and try to find at least three to five things you can be grateful for.

3. OUR CHOICE TO BE KIND AND GENEROUS

Let today be the day you commit to one or more simple acts of kindness a day!

You can begin by buying a coffee for your friend. Smile at the cashier and wish her a good day. Offer your help to a stranger.

Final words

Go creative. Each of us can come up with something that doesn’t have to cost you anything but can mean the world to the other person involved.
