Do you notice the huge impact of the negative news around you on your well-being? Feeling drained and anxious?
You are not the only one. I felt the same way as you. Would you like to know how you can feel better again?
Maybe you are wondering about when this all will be over. Waiting for the big day to come so you can be free from all these restrictions. Longing for the enjoyment of social events again.
Not so long time ago hug was act of care and love, not a crime.
Anyway, I might not be able to tell you when we can return to normal. But I have learned some great tools and techniques I’d like to share with you.
My mission here is to help you get through all of this with ease. Or even to make you stronger and better than you were before.
This article aims to help you direct your focus and energy in a more meaningful way. So please turn off your tv, distance yourself from negative news and follow these steps.
Shall we begin?
Where negative people see problems and complain, you can spot opportunities and act.
Let’s get clear right away. You and I have two options.
If you like to feel miserable, then do what the masses do. Focus on how horrible this situation is, complain and moan all day and blame everyone for your situation. It’s easy, and you surely find many fellows to join you.
We all have a second option. Something that many won’t even consider because it demands your attention and effort. And yeah, we need to accept our responsibility too—a tough one for many.
If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.
Maya Angelou
It’s time to accept it the way it is and ask yourself: What lessons this situation has to teach me? What opportunities do I have? What actions can I take?
So in the end of it we come out stronger than before.
I believe we both will choose to make every day great! Are you with me? If yes, here are 10 tips on how you can improve your well-being! Shall we begin?
1. WAKE UP WITH GRATITUDE
When we focus on our gratitude, the tide of disappointment goes out, and the tide of love rushes in.
Kristin Armstrong
Did you know gratitude can greatly improve your mental and physical health? In addition, it can boost your self-esteem, lowers stress, enhance your empathy and makes you sleep better. Isn’t this interesting?
Not to mention gratitude can boost your mood and help you to see the world more colourfully. Just try it for a few minutes when you wake up or before you go to bed.
Now that you know all these benefits I invite you to grab a pen and jot down between 3 to 5 things you can be grateful for.
Maybe it’s your legs that allow you to move around or your eyes through which you see the beauty of this world.
Do this consistently every day. Notice the changes. Share with others.
2. SLOW DOWN WITH MEDITATION
Meditation is another powerful tool that I highly recommend. In fact, it can help you lower your stress level, control anxiety, lengthen your attention and make you more aware of your own mind and body.
“Correct your mind and the rest of your life will fall into place.”
Lao Tzu
With this in mind, just stop reading for a moment. To illustrate take a piece of paper and pen and write down all the thoughts that come to your mind at this moment.
The birds are singing. So nice. Ah, I need to make the call. But what am I going to have for lunch today? I don’t feel like cooking. I should go and move. But it’s cold outside. Stay where you are. Omg, I need to cut my nails. Wow, the sun just showed up. Go and do something.
Our mind can be like a hyperactive monkey. All of a sudden jumping from one tree to another without much focus and intention as the day is passing. Without a doubt, you have the capacity to learn how to discipline your mind and enjoy the benefits of less stress, lower anxiety and more focus.
Only a few minutes a day can do miracles for you. I use daily this guided “6 Phase Meditation” from Mindvalley. This meditation brings your focus to practice: compassion, gratitude, forgiveness, goal setting and visualization. Find 18 minutes when you wake up or before sleep.
3. GET YOUR BODY MOVING
Being active is great not only for your mental health and mood but also for your well-being. You will feel great when you start your day with a workout. I make sure that every day I run, walk, cycle, do HIIT training or yoga.
You can try the app Down Dog, where you get access to Yoga, HIIT, Meditation, and a few others for a small fee. Based on your schedule, you chose the length of training and let them guide you.
Have fun with it!
4. BOOST YOUR WELL-BEING WITH MUSIC

I do understand if meditation is not appealing to you yet, and it’s absolutely fine. It took me some time to get to that stage too. Listening to great music can improve your mood and benefit your overall well-being.
I get the most joy in life out of music.
Albert Einstein
So let’s turn on your favourite music and sing and dance like no one is watching.
Here is my “2021 Good Mood” playlist. What songs get you into a great mood? Turn them on!
5. DO SOMETHING CHALLENGING EVERY DAY
Find something that you can’t do yet and work towards getting better.
Progress makes you happy.
Set small daily mini-achievements.
Can you think of any moment in your life when you felt great because you managed something you couldn’t do before?
Maximise these moments in your life. Pick one and do it. There is no better time than now.
I chose to: wake up at 6.30 am for 66 days, increase my flexibility (especially hips), play the guitar, do push-ups, and learn how to develop a blog.
6. TO BE LIVING IS TO BE GIVING

Set your intention to find at least one person you can help. It’s the best selfish thing you can do. It boosts your personal well-being and also the well-being of others.
Fin a way to do it every day!
Why? You will experience a lower stress level, and you will feel happier and better about yourself. Interesting, isn’t it?
Share a meal with your housemates—Cook for your family. Send a thanking message to someone you know. Brighten up someone’s da. Smile to the cashier next time you go to make your groceries. Support local farmers by buying from them.
Free your creative spirit! So what is it that you choose to give today?
7. FEED YOUR MIND WITH VALUABLE PODCAST
It’s time for mental detox! You will significantly reduce your anxiety and fear just by turning off your tv and radio. Your mind will be grateful for this step.
Now, when you got some spare time you can tune yourself into some positive and valuable podcasts.
You can listen to them when you go for a walk, drive or do groceries.
I’m using Spotify and Player FM. Of course, use whatever works the best for you.
In case you have trouble selecting some, here are my favourite ones: The Mindvalley Podcast, Fearless Motivation, The Quote of the Day Show, and The Brendon Show.
8. DIVE INTO A GREAT BOOK
When was the last time you voluntarily read something else than news or social media posts?
As J. K. Rowling said, “If you love reading, great. If you don’t, I believe you haven’t found the right book yet.”

Why is reading beneficial? It reduces our stress level and expands our minds.
I’m currently reading 5 AM Club, written by Robin Sharma. And there are so many other great books I want to read. Anyway, here are two more of my choice: Losing My Virginity by Richard Branson and Emotional Agility by Susan David.
Feel free to follow me on GoodReads for more updates.
9. LEARN SOMETHING NEW
Maybe you have difficulties in adapting to changes or often experience boredom. The best way is to start learning something new!
Think of something you would like to learn for such a long time. Then take the first step now! What are you waiting for?
This time we are living at gives us many wonderful opportunities. In only a few clicks, you can be reading a book or joining an online course without having to leave the comfort of your home.
Let your curiosity guide you.
This could be the time to master new recipes, learn a new language, or paint. If you go to UDEMY, you can find great online courses often for very reasonable prices.
10. DO MORE OF WHAT U LOVE
When we are fully engaged in doing something we like, we have no time left to worry.
Go and pick up your painting again. Sharpen your pencils so you can draw the breathtaking view you once saw. Get some soil and seeds to plant a little garden. Grab a piece of paper and go to do some origami. Begin to play an instrument of your choice...
With a bit of creativity, you can surely find a couple of things you can be doing during those weeks of lockdown.
Go and lose yourself in it. Forget the time and experience the pleasure simply from doing it.
Few words at the end
Knowledge is power, but knowledge without action is useless.
Finally, it’s time for you to bring these tools into daily practice. In any case, don’t worry it doesn’t take much of your time.
Pick now one of the ideas which makes you curious and take action. See for yourself what it does to your well-being after only a few days.
Make your life a great one!
