During my recent trip to the south of France, I found myself staying at the home of Carwyn Williams, a former professional surfer from Wales. When I booked the place, I had no idea who he was—I was simply drawn to the energy of his surf house, sensing it was created by someone with a genuine and warm heart.

One evening, we shared a conversation that left a deep imprint on me. I was struck not only by the stories he carried but also by his humility—a man who once graced the front pages of newspapers for his surfing talent, yet carries himself with such grounded simplicity.
Life Crossroads
While Carwyn’s friends followed the safer road—stable careers, financial security, and material comfort, he chose something else. Today, many of them might be considered “rich,” yet they are unhappy. They sacrificed freedom and simple joys for a version of success that left them unfulfilled.
Carwyn chose what many would call the “crazy path”—a life that didn’t follow the rules of stability and convention, but one that was alive with uncertainty, detours, and wild turns. He lived his dream fully: travelling the world, catching unforgettable waves, and gathering stories and experiences no amount of money could ever buy.
By society’s standards, he may not be considered rich. But to me, he is one of the richest people I’ve ever met. Perhaps he doesn’t see it in the same light at this stage of his life, yet from where I stand, his richness is undeniable.
And meeting him came at the perfect timing for me. I was at a crossroads myself—leaning toward the unpredictable ride, stepping away from the illusion of “certainty” that comes with taking a stable job. I had already decided that I don’t want to merely survive—I want to live my life intensely. And this is exactly what I’m experiencing now.
Because I see it so clearly: what makes us truly rich is not staying stuck in the same safe cycle all our lives. It’s having the courage to face our fears, to be authentic, to love, to laugh, to expand our comfort zone. This evolution is what brings fulfilment.
One day you look back, laughing, realizing that the life you live now used to be just a dream—and you made it real. How cool is that?

Life as the Ocean
This is the analogy I love to use myself.
In life, there are always crossroads. One path is like the flat ocean—predictable, calm, and safe, but with little adventure. The other is like the wavy ocean—wild, uncertain, alive. On this path, you might catch the greatest wave of your life. You don’t know where it will take you, or how, but something in your heart tells you it’s the one worth riding.
Yes, it comes with ups and downs, but those very waves are the ones that grow us, expand us, and shape us. The richness is not just in catching the “big wave,” but in the entire journey—the obstacles we overcame, the miracles that unfolded, the amazing people we met along the way.
Life isn’t about waiting for the perfect wave someday. It’s about riding the one in front of you now—one wave at a time, one moment at a time.

The Question
I don’t want to leave this life with dreams unfulfilled. When my time comes, I want to look back and feel proud—not because I played it safe, but because I had the courage to pursue what set my soul on fire. The bumpy ride, with all its twists and turns, is what makes life meaningful and full of color.
I don’t long for material possessions. I long to collect memories, to grow, and to share love with others through my passions. That, to me, is richness.
So, what does being rich really mean?
Is it the number in your bank account—or is it your health, freedom, friendships, laughter, and joy?
I know my answer. I don’t mind being called crazy. To me, crazy is working hard your whole life only to hope you might live later.
I choose to ride the wave now. ????
